Manhattan : Benches of Pedro Silva

Grant’s Tomb was erected in 1897 and designed by John H. Duncan, who modeled it after Mausoleus’ tomb at Halicarnassus. In 1973, Pedro Silva and the City Arts Workshop created colorful mosaic benches, done by children, around the memorial’s plaza intended to beautify the site.

Pedrito a dit…

I just want to clarify that these benches were not design by only children. I designed the benches, involving the community in the construction. Then all the 'community' immediate community members of all ages, from 6 years old to 96 yrs old, groups from other states, passer byes and tourist from many countries participated in the project, again all ages. For more details feel free to communicate with me, Pedro at pedritos@earthlink.net

Thanks!
